Watton Under 12's returned to action after a 2 week Easter break, and faced a tricky away fixture against the much improved Old Catton. Playing on a big pitch, Watton knew they needed to work hard to overcome their physical opponents, and that is exactly what they did as they produced arguably their best performance of the season. All over the pitch Watton were outstanding, dominating possession throughout, and they rarely allowed Old Catton to threaten Asher Duncan's goal. Central defenders Ben Andrews and Liam Owen always looked comfortable, and this allowed fullbacks Ollie Kerrison and Kade Bond to push forward at every opportunity, forcing Catton's midfielders backwards. This in turn allowed the midfield of Ben Walker, Cameron Hudson, Ben Gordon and Matty Hendrie to showcase all their talents, and all four were outstanding. James Beaumont and Josh Walker upfront also linked up superbly, and it was a matter of time before Watton made the breakthrough. And what a superb goal it was, as a great touch from Josh set up Cameron, and his first time pass sent James through on goal, before coolly rounding the keeper to finish. The only surprise was that it was only 1-0 at half time, but the second half continued in the same vain, with Watton on top, and controlling possession. With 15 minutes to go, Watton made it two, as the ball dropped to Ben Walker, and he smashed the ball in to the roof of the net. Substitute Leon Hanlon then entered the fray, and eased into the game immediately, joining in with some lovely pass and move football. With 5 minutes to go, Watton thought they had grabbed number 3, as a great cross was converted by Josh, but this was harshly ruled offside. Moments later, however, Josh was not to be denied, as he followed up James' shot, and after the keeper could only parry, stroked the ball home. All round, this was a tremendous team display, and one they should be extremely proud.
